Stuckey’s
Since 1937, Stuckey’s has been a part of the American travel landscape for folks to stop by and “Relax, Refresh, & Refuel”.
Who could forget the pecan divinity, flavored pecans, and most of all the celebrated Stuckey’s Pecan Log Roll, a heavenly inspired creation of Mrs. Ethel Stuckey herself? Based on a secret mix of powdered sugar, white molasses, and roasted nuts, that mouth-watering miracle of fluffy white sweetness covered in its own deep coating of crushed select pecans became the soul and spirit of the store and the number one reason for families to stop… well, along with using the restrooms, gassing up the car, and having a snack and a soft drink, of course.

Part 4 The Growth Years
More franchises would follow as Sylvester had a rather innovative way of finding new store locations; he would start each journey with a cup of coffee and drive until he heard nature’s call, and that’s where the new Stuckey’s would be built. By the early 1960s, there would be 368 locations across nearly all of the 48 contiguous states.
My grandfather was also one of the earliest purveyors of the highway billboard, and Stuckey’s billboards became a ubiquitous part of the American landscape. In fact, he often joked that there were 50 billboards for each Stuckey’s location in the nation.
